The Museum of Bad Art

Brand Identity Art Direction Culture
The Museum of Bad Art (MOBA) founded in 1993 is a museum like no other. Dedicated to showcasing art deemed “too bad to be ignored”, it celebrates and preserves works of art with significant technical or conceptual ‘flaws’. Often found in dumpsters, MOBA’s collections embody the phrase “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure” and offers a refuge to artworks that would otherwise be homeless.Inspired by the jarring artworks themselves, the new visual identity puts the great mistakes, striking colour combinations, and wonky brush strokes at the centre of the brand. Alongside the tagline “Art too bad to be ignored”, extreme crops and obscure angles are used to ensure these precious creations never fade into the background and remain truly impossible to ignore.

The museum’s greatest asset is its wonderfully unusual and eclectic collection, which sits at the heart of the identity and invites intrigue, debate, and double takes.

The museum’s merchandise lets visitors take a little bad art home, bringing its wonderfully questionable charm into everyday life.
