Ditchling Fair 2024

Brand Identity Art Direction Illustration Community In 2024, Ditchling Fair returned with a renewed sense of energy and purpose, continuing a tradition first granted by King Edward II in 1312. More than seven centuries on, the fair remains a moment for the village to gather, celebrate and reconnect. This year’s theme, Rogues, Raves and Razzmatazz set the tone for a bold creative direction rolled out across posters, social media, wristbands and the fair programme.Building on Ditchling’s longstanding artistic heritage, the design system evolved into a vivid exploration of individuality and self-expression. A bespoke typeface, paired with a cast of illustrated fair folk, became the centrepiece of the visual identity. Together, they captured the whimsical, eccentric spirit that has shaped the village for generations, encouraging the community to step into the celebration as their authentic selves.

Nodding to the typographic heritage of the village, the identity is driven by a unique set of glyphs and characters that dance and laugh their way through fair day, much like the village folk themselves.

The bold colours adorning bold characters became a success at cutting through the humdrum of everyday village life.

The striking colours and forms of the fair identity were effective across digital too.
